Synopsis

“There would be no happy ending for us. He was too damaged. I was too broken.”

Two years ago, Lorrie’s mother was murdered. But that wasn’t the end of it. Reeling from the tragedy,  Lorrie’s father spiraled into alcohol, depression, and finally suicide.

The two most important people in Lorrie’s life are both gone but she’s still alive.

Trying to recover from the tragedy, Lorrie returns to campus, ready to pick up the pieces of her life. All Lorrie wants is to get back to “normal.”

Then she meets Hunter. The man, the legend, “the Hammer.”

Hunter is a cage fighter who takes on every fight like he’s got nothing to lose. His life is a tangled mess of girls, booze, and fist fights. And while it may seem like he’s got a devil-may-care attitude, he’s fighting a private cage-match with a monster he can’t defeat.

Lorrie knows that Hunter is the exact type of guy she should stay away from, especially in her fragile state, but Hunter has other ideas.

As Hunter and Lorrie grow closer together, will they be able to overcome their pain and heal each other? Or will they both end up wrecked?

Guest Reviewer Becky

I was excited to read this book.  I love a good story about a sexy underground cage fighter.  This book had me hooked from the very first page.  I will admit. I did start comparing it to other books out there about college underground cage fighters.

How many things can go wrong in someone’s life? Lorrie had several.  Her mother was murdered by her step father and her father took his own life only months after her stepfather’s trial. She seemed to be a walking disaster who was keeping people at their distances.

What college age girl in this day and age wants to go to college and not find the perfect guy?  I don’t know many.  Well, Lorrie was this girl.  Or she thought she was.  Until she found someone who was as broken as she was.

Hunter was her savior more times than I could count.  Sometimes the way he was treated by Lorrie, I often thought to myself why does he stick around?  I found myself asking myself that question all the time.  There were times when I just wanted to yell at her.

Hunter and Lorrie both had their secrets that they didn’t want to share with one another.  They were both afraid that they would hurt each other and their relationship would end.

Lorrie thoughts on Hunter were “He was a walking contradiction: fierce yet tender, strong but damaged”.  He was her rock and shoulder to cry on.

Four stars.1
